What comfort fit means
The inside of the band is gently domed rather than flat. It is a small change in shape that makes a large difference to how a ring feels after twelve hours on.
Every Foundoria ring is comfort fit, whatever it is made of. It is not an upgrade or an option, it is simply how we make them.
Domed inside, not flat

Because less of the band is in contact with your skin, there is less friction and no ridge pressing in at either edge. Air moves under it, so you avoid the trapped, slightly damp feeling a wide flat band can give by the end of a day. And with no sharp inside corners, nothing digs into the finger beside it.
Why it matters more than it sounds
Easier on and off
Which matters most on the days your hands have swollen a little, from heat, exercise or a long flight.
Less irritation
Less contact means less rubbing, and less moisture held against the skin all day.
It moves with you
Fingers swell and shrink through the day. A curved interior accommodates that better than a flat one fights it.
You stop noticing it
Which is the whole point of a ring you intend to wear every day for decades.
It matters more on a wider band. At 8mm, that is a good deal of metal against your finger, and flat would be noticeable. The dome is what makes a substantial ring wearable, which is why comfort fit has traditionally been found on wider premium bands rather than narrow ones.
What it means for the size you order
If you fall between two sizes, take the smaller one
Comfort fit already gives you a little room, so the smaller of two sizes is usually the one that feels secure and settles in comfortably.
There is one exception. If your knuckle is noticeably larger than the base of your finger, or your fingers swell in warm weather, size up instead and accept that it will sit a little loose on a cold morning.
If you are working from a ring you already own and it is a flat band rather than a comfort fit one, expect ours to feel slightly roomier at the same size. That is the dome doing its job.

On a sleeve ring, the inside is not metal
Worth knowing, because it changes what comfort fit means for you. On our antler and wood sleeve rings, the natural material forms the inner wall of the band, so the gently domed surface resting against your finger is antler or oak rather than metal. The metal sits on the outer face, where it takes the knocks.
People with reactive skin often find this the most comfortable ring they own, for the simple reason that no metal is touching them at all. There is more on that in choosing a ring for sensitive skin.
On an inlay ring it works the other way round. The meteorite, antler or oak sits in the outer face where it can be seen, and the domed interior against your finger is titanium, zirconium or tungsten.
Every material, every width
Comfort fit is standard across the range, whether the band is tungsten carbide, titanium, black zirconium or carbon fibre. Our rings come in 6mm and 8mm depending on the style, and both are domed inside.
It is worth mentioning width to a jeweller if you are being sized in person, because a wider band needs a slightly larger size than a narrow one. Tell them 6mm or 8mm with a comfort fit interior and a good jeweller will allow for it.
Getting it right first time
Our rings cannot be altered afterwards. On any ring with a natural inlay, resizing would mean cutting the band and closing it up again, which the inlay would not survive. So comfort fit gives you a little more tolerance than a flat band would, but it is not a substitute for measuring properly.

Keeping it clean
One small bonus: a domed interior has no sharp corners for soap, grit or skin to collect in, so it stays cleaner than a flat one and takes a wipe more easily. A soft dry cloth now and then is enough. Our care guide covers what each material needs.
