Here is a problem almost every small jeweller has, and almost none of them talk about.
Nobody can hold every size of every ring. Hold seventeen sizes across a range this size and most of that stock sits in a drawer for years. So the industry solution has always been to show a size as unavailable and hope you either wait, compromise, or come back later. Usually you just leave.
We do it differently on eighteen of our styles. Every size stays buyable, whether we are holding it or not. If we have yours, it ships from stock. If we do not, we make it for you. And on the styles where that is not offered, the answer to an unavailable size is still a conversation rather than a closed door.
How It Works
The important part is the second step. Every product page checks the size you have selected against what we are actually holding, and tells you plainly which of the two you are buying. A made to order size shows a real arrival window with dates in it, calculated from the day you are looking at the page. Not "allow 6 to 8 weeks" buried in a shipping policy, but the actual fortnight your ring should land in.
That window also travels with your order. It is recorded against the line item, so it appears in your basket, at checkout, on your order confirmation, and on the packing slip. The dates are frozen at the moment you buy, which is what a receipt should do.
Two things we will not pretend
Payment is taken when you order, not when the ring is finished. That is how the making gets funded, and we would rather say it here than have you find out at checkout.
Eight to ten weeks is a genuine wait. If your wedding is in six weeks, do not order a made to order size and hope. Filter to what is in stock, tell us your date, or take a size we are holding. We would rather sell you a ring that arrives.
Why We Do It This Way
The alternative is worse for everyone. A ring shown as unavailable in your size is a dead end: you cannot buy it, we cannot sell it, and the design you actually wanted goes to somebody else's website. Made to order turns that into a choice about timing rather than a refusal.
It also means the range does not quietly shrink to whatever is popular. Sizes at the ends of the scale, both the smallest and the largest, are the first thing a jeweller stops stocking and the hardest for a customer to find anywhere. On these eighteen styles they are as buyable as a size 9.
And a style selling out no longer removes it from sale. When the last one in your size goes, that size flips to made to order automatically rather than disappearing.

If your size shows as unavailable, ask us anyway
On the styles outside that eighteen, an unheld size shows as unavailable on the website. That is what our system can promise automatically. It is not the same as us saying no.
Get in touch and tell us the ring and the size. Sometimes we can source it, sometimes a production run is already going through and yours can be added to it, and sometimes we know the same look exists in a style that does go to your size. Occasionally the honest answer is that we cannot, and we will tell you that quickly rather than leave you waiting.
It costs you one message, and it is the difference between a dead end and a ring. We would much rather have that conversation than watch you leave empty handed.

Before You Order a Made to Order Size
Get the size right
This matters more here than anywhere else on the site. Tungsten, titanium and zirconium cannot be resized, and a made to order ring takes two months to replace. Measure properly: our complete ring sizing guide covers six methods, and we will post you a free ring sizer before you commit to anything.
Work backwards from the date
If the ring is for a wedding, count back from the day, add a few weeks of margin, and order against that rather than against the arrival window on the page. Windows are estimates and estimates move.
Ask us
If you are close to the line, get in touch before ordering. We can tell you what we are holding in your size across the range, which is often the fastest route to a ring you will be just as happy with.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a made to order ring take?
Typically 8 to 10 weeks for UK orders and 10 to 12 weeks internationally, allowing for longer shipping. The product page shows a dated arrival window for the size you have selected, calculated from the day you are viewing it.
Is a made to order ring different from a stocked one?
No. Same design, same materials, same specification, same certification. The only difference is that yours is produced after you order rather than before.
When do I pay?
When you place the order. Payment is what funds the making, so it is taken up front rather than on dispatch.
Is it bespoke or custom?
No, and we would rather be precise about that. Made to order means an existing design produced in your size. It is not a custom commission, and there is no personalisation involved.
Can I cancel or return one?
Our standard returns terms apply. If your plans change after ordering, contact us as early as you can, because the earlier in the process we hear the more we can do.
How do I tell whether my size is in stock?
Select it on the product page. The line beneath the size options reads either "In stock" or "Made to order" with the arrival window.
What if the size I want is not offered at all?
That means the style is stocked only, so the website cannot promise it automatically. Message us before you give up on it. Depending on the style we can sometimes source it, add it to a production run, or point you to a very similar design that does go to your size. If the answer is no, we will tell you straight away rather than leave you hanging.
Will my order confirmation say which one I bought?
Yes. The dispatch expectation is recorded against the line item, so it appears in your basket, at checkout, on the order confirmation and on the packing slip, with the dates frozen as they were when you ordered.
